Thur 22, 2018, Day 354
Staying with Gustav and Susanne in Gardens
Distance from Amsterdam 20026
Not much happened today other than a visit to the butcher shop in Parow to buy fillet on special at R129/kg, checking out Assos cycle shorts in Claremont, another medical check up and having dinner and staying with friends, Susanne and Gustav in the suburb of Gardens, bordering Higgovale. Susanne used to work as an economist for the World Bank and now reanslates Dorothee Fleck’s cycling adventure books into English. Dorothee is a German cyclist who gave up her high powered job 10 years ago and has been cycling ever since. Gustav?
Their friends, Ian and Franki Lints joined us for supper in celebration of Thanksgiving Day on their deck overlooking a portion of Table Mountain. Gustav loves cooking and prepared a delicious meal. We especially enjoyed all the vegetables as we have been somewhat starved of decent vegetables up north in Africa and having only one pot limits us to cooking single pot meals. It was one day away from full moon and the mountain was a beautiful silhouette in the sky. We saw torches flickering from hikers coming down Lions Head after they had enjoyed watching the sun set. It brought back memories of when hips and knees were better ‘oiled’ and functional? Another day in beautiful Cape Town. We had forgotten about how bad the traffic congestion was but tried hard to ‘go with the slow flow’ and switch off on the bumper to bumper roads.
That’s it for today folks, night all!
