Riaan started his career in financial services at Santam in 1986 and served in various roles during his time at the company, including Domestic Underwriter, Senior Claims Handler, Head of Claims and Assistant Manager, before opening his own brokerage in 1995.



The brokerage started as a one-man business and grew into one of the three largest independent brokerages in the Helderberg basin. In 2012, he joined forces with three other independent brokers to merge the four and create an independent company.

Since then, he’s held positions as an accountant in the private sector, as financial and administration manager for a large company in the agriculture sector, and head of business development and restructuring at a medium-sized firm, where, under his supervision, the client base increased by 75% in one year.



In 2008, Stefan started his own practice with the main focus on delivering accounting, tax and business support services to the SMME market. He was in private practice for six years before joining the Origin Financial Group.

Ryno started his career in financial services at Santam Insurance in 1992. He first worked in the legal department, handling personal and commercial claims, after which he was transferred to the commercial claims department, where he worked with commercial claim.



He left Santam in 1999 and joined an independent brokerage as a financial adviser and partner. Within a few years, the business grew to become one of the largest independent brokerages in the Helderberg basin. In 2012, the brokerage merged with three other brokerages to become Origin Financial Services.

Wium began his career in the insurance industry at a large corporate insurer in 1994 and worked in various junior and senior positions in the personal and commercial-business space. In 2000, he joined a corporate brokerage where he worked as a portfolio manager for various personal and commercial clients.

He started his own brokerage, MCL Risk Advisors, in 2002, which 10 years later merged with three other independent brokers to create a company with a new and holistic approach to the financial services industry.1

With over 24 years’ experience in the short-term insurance industry, Wium has had exposure to most aspects of the business. He has a passion for marketing, product development, brand management and service delivery, which he strives to achieve within the Origin Group.

Executive Advisor and Dryden forms part of the leadership team for the Cape Town branch of Origin Financial and Chair of the Cultural Team.

While managing this firm, he qualified as a Key Individual and Representative, as per regulatory requirements. He is also a member of the Financial Intermediaries Association of South Africa.

In his capacity as Director of Origin, Marius investigates new avenues of effective risk management, structuring insurance models using various risk-management techniques.

Before working in the financial services sector as a financial adviser, Marius was first a teacher, and then a psychometrist at a private psychology practice. During this period, he qualified as a Representatives and Key Individuals of Financial Services Providers in compliance with regulatory requirements.


In his capacity as short-term insurance broker, he worked in specialised insurance, using structured risk-management models for clients with specialised risk management needs. He is also a member of the FIA.

Niel worked for Pioneer Foods from 1995 to 2005. Seeking a greater challenge, he resigned in 2005 and decided to go to work for a broker with the goal of starting his own brokerage in 2007. As planned, Niel received his FSB license in February 2007 and started working as Niel Barnard Insurance Brokers.



In 2012, Niel decided it was time to involve his wife, who was working for Santam at the time, in his own business. During that time, Niel trained himself in the insurance industry by accumulating the necessary credits as well as completing the RE1 and RE5 exams, a requirement for Reps and AIs alike.


In 2017, with all the challenges in the insurance industry, Niel decided that the time had come to start thinking bigger and possibly join a larger institution. This decision brought him to the door of Origin Financial.

Heidi Beckett

Heidi started her career in the financial services sector in 1991, spending just over four years in life assurance prior to moving to Cape Town, where she joined a short-term insurance broker. In 1996 she started working in short-term insurance as a claims handler.


In 2003, she furthered her career by becoming the operations manager at PMA Insurance Consultants, and in 2009 she bought shares in the company becoming a shareholder and a director in PMA Insurance Consultants. While managing a successful short-term insurance brokerage for many years, Heidi qualified as Key Individual and Representative as part of the regulatory requirements set out for the insurance industry. In January 2015, PMA joined Origin Financial.

Anchun started her career in the financial sector as a general assistant for Exponential brokers. In this time, she gained experience from underwriting policies, handlings claims, and giving general assistance in the normal running of good business practice. As time progressed, she became involved in all aspects of the business which among others included marketing and human resources aspects.

For her there is nothing more satisfying than seeing her clients happy, which is why she decided to become a qualified adviser in short-term insurance. She completed the first level of the regulatory exams of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS).

She also qualified as Key Individual under the FAIS Act to represent Exponential brokers at company level and act as an advisor to staff members who haven’t passed their first-level regulatory exams.

André Hunlun

André started his career at Santam in 1974. After working as Deputy Branch Manager at the insurer, he ventured on his own to start a new brokerage with three other partners. A decade later André joined Origin Financial Advisers as Portfolio Manager and is responsible to service and maintain an existing portfolio and to obtain and service new clients. He is an accredited adviser to handle domestic- and commercial insurance portfolios.

Conrad started his career with Santam he worked as a legal officer, handling legal matters and liaising with legal counsel. From July 1998 to November 2001 he was employed at Alexander Forbes Risk Services in Stellenbosch, starting as a senior claims handler before being promoted to claims manager. He transferred to the company’s broker division, where he underwent intensive training in underwriting for personal and commercial lines, and corporate business.

In December 2001, he moved to Aurum Brokers in Somerset West, where he started building his own individual client base while practicing as an independent broker under Aurum’s license. During this time, he gained skills in marketing and the underwriting of personal lines and commercial lines, and trained as an apprentice medical scheme broker. In April 2003 he got accredited as medical scheme broker.

Zelna started her career in the short-term insurance industry in 1991 with Auto & General in Pretoria as a broker consultant. In 1994 she joined Monument Brokers in Roodepoort servicing various insurance brokers in her capacity as broker consultant for Monument.

In 2001 she joined PSG as a broker looking after personal and commercial clients, and getting exposure to the entire insurance broking process, from marketing to claims. In 2003 she joined Multi Insurance Brokers where she further extended her client base.

In February 2009, she started her own short-term insurance broking business, Eikestad Insurance Brokers, in Stellenbosch. She joined Origin in 2013.

She also worked as Project Assistant Manager on product research, systems design and IT development. In 1999 she started work for Sanlam Broker Services in, Bellville, Cape Town, as a personal assistant to the senior legal. She also has experience in life, medical and short-term insurance. Juanita registered her own business in 2001 and started working in my own brokerage where apart from insurance she was also involved in property development and bond origination, but from 2008 focussed and specialised only in short-term insurance. Johan Graaff began his financial career with Sanlam in 1995 and served as a financial adviser until 2002. During this time he completed the relevant in-house courses, which Sanlam is renowned for. He then joined Absa Private Bank in 2003 and served on their panel as financial adviser. He is a member of the Financial Intermediary Association and the FPI.


Love camping, especially the smell of coffee in the morning while camping, ocean as stress relief, a ‘rugby braai’, a good book every so often brings some refinement to the mix.

Werner Lubbe started his career in the financial services sector in 2006. He holds the following qualifications:

Werner started his career at PWC as article clerk, did his compulsory national service at SARS, thereafter internal auditor at Distell. Before joining Origin, Werner worked at Sanlam for 14 years, as Senior Financial Adviser and Principal at Suggero Wealth Bluestar. Prior to joining Sanlam, he was a Commercial Banker and a Financial Manager at two JSE Listed Companies.
